In December
1998, we dreamt of the kind of place where you could chat with your friends,
your loved one or your business associates in a homely atmosphere backdropped
by jazz or rock music. Where there would
always be fresh flowers in the window. Where they knew as soon as you walked in
how you liked your coffee, which beer you drank, and your favourite table or
tune.
We hope
we’ve got it right…
So, what is
there to see and hear?
During the
day, you can sip your coffee along to well-chosen jazz albums. As evening
approaches, beer comes to the fore and the music slowly shifts to rock and
blues classics.
Our photos
have mainly been selected from the 1950s and 1960s. Robert Doisneau and Louis
Stettner echo the Paris of their time, while Robert Capa and Zoltán Hajtmanszki
and various Hungarian artists and amateurs bring the faces of Budapest right up
to the present day.
This
is a colourful city. It always has been. Even during its greyest times, you can
see locals, lovers, entertainers and workers radiating in their own special charm.
